Gli aggettivi satisfying e satisfactory possono essere tradotti entrambi con “soddisfacente”, ma possiedono sfumature di significato diverse. Satisfactory indica l'adeguamento a parametri o criteri richiesti: The sales figures are satisfactory, i dati delle vendite sono soddisfacenti (corrispondono alle aspettative). Satisfying ha un significato un po' più forte, in quanto indica una soddisfazione personale e si avvicina di più all'aggettivo “appagante”: a satisfying career, una carriera appagante.
